What is BOEM?
"BOEM" stands for "Bucheon Onnuri English Ministry". We are a welcoming Christian worship community which worships in English every Sunday. BOEM serves as a "church away from home" for foreigners who reside in Bucheon, as well as Koreans who are interested in English ministry. BOEM has been active in Bucheon's Sang-Dong district since August 2002. Our pastor since March 2013 is Jenna Kim, who lived in the USA for many years. There are several deacons who actively engage in community-building, as well as others from all over the world who serve in many capacities. See "BOEM Staff" for more. |
Where is BOEM?
We are located in the Sang-dong neighborhood of Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea (near Sang-Dong Subway Station). See the Directions page for more. |

BOEM's Background
BOEM is a part of the Onnuri Community Church in Bucheon. Onnuri is a Protestant Christian church body that was organized in the 1980s in Seoul. Bucheon Onnuri was organized in the 1990s. BOEM itself was started in 2003 in response to the growing English-speaking community in Bucheon.
Onnuri can trace its origins to the preaching and evangelism of (among others) the missionary Horace Grant Underwood who arrived in Korea on Easter Sunday 1885 and preached the Word in Korea for thirty years.
About Onnuri Church
Today, over 60,000 members make up the Onnuri family at nine Onnuri church campuses in Korea. There are 27 vision church plants in countries such as China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the US. Our church has also established mission centers throughout the world, and also has a publishing company, radio station, internet TV and cable TV stations as well close ties with an accredited seminary. But as large as the church may be, there is an intimacy within our family that values each individual, providing care and the means to greater spiritual growth. (From OnnuriEnglish.org).
While more than 800,000 people reside in the city of Bucheon, it can still be a very lonely place. As the name Onnuri implies, BOEM is committed to building a community of friends from all nations, including English-speaking Christians in and around our city of Bucheon. We look forward to seeing you!
