The latest BOEM outing was enjoyed by seventeen BOEM members are guests! We visited the area around Jecheon, a small city in the middle of the peninsula. It was on Saturday November 1st.

As mentioned last week on the always-informative pages of "BOEM's Latest News", one of our members has co-opened a study room in southern Bucheon.
BOEM members traveled together down to it and eagerly ate the snacks laid out on the table. Suffice it to say, the sandwiches were delicious! We blessed the new business and prayed for its success. See the Activity Reports page for more details. "Snacks will be provided!" promises a BOEM member who is opening a small hagwon in Bucheon very soon. The Texan was inviting us to his "hagwon opening party" on Sunday October 26th, right after BOEM service (so around 4 PM). We look forward to celebrating and...eating plenty of his snacks.
Have a look at the pictures of BOEM activities, newly added today!
If you have pictures you want to add, please contact us. Americans may remember a certain potato chip commercial from some years ago, which teased the viewer: "I bet you can't eat just one!" Well, it seems that something similar has happened to BOEM. We can't visit Jecheon just once, you see.
And so it happened that the plan for the second BOEM Jecheon trip was born! This comes today from Deacon Park: BOEM's Second Jecheon Trip Purpose: Visit the Jecheon region for sightseeing; enjoy Christian fellowship; visit our friend and longtime BOEM member who has moved there. Day: Saturday, November 1st, 2014 Meeting Time: 7:00 AM Meeting place: Lobby of the Main Onnuri Church building, Bucheon Return to Bucheon: Late evening Method of Travel: By car Drivers' Skill: Probably excellent Level of Enjoyment: Definitely high Please come and invite a friend! Starting this month, we will be Living Life for our Bible Study. Uhh, wait, I forgot a word in there, did I? Correction: We will be using "Living Life".
Confused, are you? Let me explain: "Living Life" is the name of an excellent monthly Christian devotional magazine. Many of our members use it already. Our pastor proposed these changes after service today, and members agreed. So let's get started with living life! Pastor Jenna announces today that a Sri Lankan seminarian will be our special guest on Sunday November 2nd.
We look forward to hearing from him! This is our fourth guest speaker of 2014. Previous guests from Vietnam, India, and Kenya were big successes. Oh, BOEM. We might compare the regular flow of international guest speakers we are blessed with, to the peaceful Gulpo Stream. That's the stream which our church overlooks. Gulpo's waters flow on to the mighty Han River, then into the Yellow Sea, and from there, potentially, to all parts of God's wide world. BOEM's guest speakers, likewise, come from all parts of the world. Join us and see! Oh, we heard some surprising news during today's fellowship hour! It was right after another successful BOEM worship service on Sunday September 28th.
One of our longtime members, M.P. from the USA, announced that he will (co-)open an English academy in Bucheon in October! Naturally, we were delighted to hear the news. May God go with you, friend. You've probably never heard of Jaecheon, have you? In and around it, you may get to do the following: Cave exploring; Lake; hiking; idyllic rural scenery; and an enormous meal with side dishes too numerous to count.
This was, anyway, the experience enjoyed by seven BOEM members in a fellowship trip on Saturday September 13th. Why Jaecheon? It was in support of a BOEM member who recently had to move to Jaecheon for work. He was very glad to see his BOEM friends again. BOEM welcomed Pastor Donald, from Nairobi, Kenya this past Sunday as a guest pastor. He is currently a seminary student in Seoul and is the regular pastor of another church in the mornings.
He shared stories about his life in Africa and Korea. Pastor Donald had been to BOEM before, last in 2012. He said he saw many new faces since that time! Our Pastor Jenna will return next week. BOEM's active and growing English Children's Ministry (JEM) held a successful, fun-filled Christian Outreach trip to a coastal community in Chungcheong-buk Province from August 8th to 10th.
The forty or so children and adults (Sunday School teachers and some parents) all seem to have enjoyed it! Coming soon: Pictures. Going to the dentist is never fun, but if the price is right...
Yes, yesterday after our worship service, a Korean Onnuri member who works as a dentist gave interested BOEMers a free checkup and cleaning, with tools and equipment he brought. Cavities found: Zero! Good job, everybody. God has blessed BOEM with members of many backgrounds and a spirit of fellowship! Good food eaten; cool water enjoyed; (a few) fish caught; a good time had by all.
Yes, about fifteen BOEM members and one guest from Japan (a future seminary student in Seoul, now intensively studying Korean language) joined the latest BOEM fellowship excursion on Saturday July 12th. We went to a secluded spot along a river, somewhere in there near the Gyeonggi-Gangwon border. Thanks mainly go to Deacon Kim for his efforts at organizing this and finding this spot. We are blessed to have him! Following worship service on July 6th, at which we shared Holy Communion (as we do on the first Sunday of every month), some BOEM members went bowling.
By far the top score was 176, bowled by an American BOEM member. The many lower scores, and the lowest scores, shall remain a secret! See our Activity Reports page for a full account of our trip. It's summertime and the living is easy. But the heat! After the worship on June 29th, a small group of BOEM members cooled off with pool.
No, not swimming. The "pool" I mean requires long wooden sticks and those blue chalk cubes. Both forms of "pool" can have "sharks". Ours was named James! Read a full report on our pool excursion on our Activity Reports page (June 2014). Yet more good news to report from BOEM. "When it rains, it pours!"
A dentist will be at BOEM on July 20th 2014 after service. The dentist is a member of the Onnuri Main Church. He has graciously offered us this service, at no cost, in the spirit of Christian goodwill. He will be giving checkups to anyone interested, and even filling cavities. Bring a friend who is in need of dental care. In the meantime, lay off the candy! Onnuri (Main Church) held a boisterous Bazaar on Sunday June 22nd. Such delicacies as pig intestines being sold! A good time was had by all, but especially by those lucky enough to get a table during the height of meal time.
See our Activity Reports page for more on the Onnuri Bazaar event. [June the 23rd, in the year of our Lord 2014] June 22 was the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. In honor of this celestial event, James led the longest Bible Study of the year! Just kidding.
In fact, BOEM Bible Study leader James continued BOEM's look at the book of Philippians, this time surrounding the issue of complaint. Is a Christian ever right to complain? Under what circumstances? The indefatigable and ever-fun-loving Deacon Kim has proposed another fellowship excursion for the BOEM community! BOEM members are excited.
Where: Gangwon Province / Yangpyeong County When: July 12th (Saturday) 2014 Who: BOEM members and others. Guests and newcomers welcome! Contact Deacon Kim or the Pastor for more information. We pray for no rain! Following another successful worship, Pastor Jenna and James decided to forgo regular Bible Study in favor of a BOEM member meeting.
We discussed various exciting possibilities, including the possibility of moving our worship to a (some say) better room. Stay tuned! |
